WHAT'S IS RVS AVID?
AVID stands for …
Advancement Via Individual Determination
But AVID is more than just an acronym in the AVID Elective.
•Students learn organizational and study skills and work on critical thinking to prepare themselves for AP and honors classes in high school and college level classes after graduation.
• Students get academic help from AVID-trained college tutors twice weekly and during Flex Time on Wednesdays
• Students learn about colleges and financial aid
• Students participate in field trips to colleges and engage in enrichment and motivational activities that make them college-ready.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
AVID Elective Student Profile
The AVID student is a student with academic potential:
• Average-to-high test scores & 2.0-3.5 GPA
• Determination to succeed and attend college
The AVID student meets one or more of the following:
• Potential First Generation College Grad (parents did not graduate from a 4yr US college)
• Member of a group Historically Underrepresented In 4- year colleges
• Low to Middle-Income Household
• Special Circumstances (e.g., family structure or situation)
