Attendance Policy at RVS

At Riverside Virtual School (RVS), students are expected to attend all live classes each day. Daily and period attendance is taken and documented to ensure student engagement and academic progress. If a student accumulates 10 or more absences (excused, unexcused, or truant) and is not making satisfactory academic progress, the school will issue an initial attendance letter from our Attendance Assistant, Ms. Espinoza. Continued attendance concerns may lead to a virtual School Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting with the Assistant Principal, followed by an in-person SART meeting at the District Office if necessary. As a reminder, students enrolled in virtual school/independent study who are not making satisfactory academic progress, even after interventions, may have their transfer revoked and be required to return to their in-person school of residence. We encourage parents to use our online absence verification form or contact Ms. Espinoza at aespinoza@riversideunified.org or (951) 778-5300 x69823 to report and excuse absences.

Satisfactory Progress is Required

  • LEAs shall document each pupil’s participation in live interaction and synchronous instruction, as applicable by grade level.

  • Determination for the level of satisfactory educational progress and the number of missed assignments that will be allowed before an evaluation is conducted to determine whether it is in the best interests of the pupil to remain in independent study, or whether the pupil should return to the regular school program.

  • Procedures for tiered reengagement strategies for:

    1. All pupils who are not generating attendance for more than 10 percent of required minimum instructional time over four continuous weeks of a LEA’s approved instructional calendar;

    2. Pupils found not participatory pursuant to EC Section 51747.5 for more than 50 percent of the scheduled days of synchronous instruction in a school month, as applicable; or

    3. Pupils who are otherwise in violation of the independent study agreement.

Notification to parents or guardians of lack of participation within one school day of the recording of a nonattendance day or lack of participation.

Program Evaluation Conference

Per the Learning Agreement that was signed up on enrollment into RVS, if a student does not complete at least 10% of required assignments, does not participate in more that 50% of the scheduled days/times of synchronous instruction, or does not demonstrate satisfactory educational progress over four (4) continuous weeks of scheduled instruction, or is in violation of the written agreement a pupil-parent-educator conference will be conducted to determine whether it is in the best interest of the student to remain in the course or whether the student should be referred to an alternative program, which may include, but is not limited to, an in-person school program,
