Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at the Riverside Virtual School! It is with great enthusiasm and honor that I write to you as the Principal. I am filled with excitement, eagerness and determination to build on our school’s strong foundation. As we embark on our journey together to blaze a trail in building a vibrant, positive, inclusive and dynamic learning community, I am filled with profound optimism that this school year will be our best one yet!
I come to the Riverside Virtual School with 18 years of service within the Riverside Unified School District. I began my career as a History-Social Science teacher and Athletic Coach at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School before I transitioned out of the classroom into leadership roles such as Staff Development Specialist, Instructional Services Specialist, Assistant Principal - High School and Assistant Principal - Middle School. At the core of my educational philosophy are the tenets of Curiosity, Passion and Resiliency. In learning, educators have a responsibility to promote curiosity, instill passion and harness resiliency in their students. By strategically enacting these three simple ideas and embedding them in daily instructional practices, students can be provided the life blood necessary to intellectually grow, develop their character, professionally thrive and collaboratively (or independently) overcome challenges. Our RVS team is already eager to see the limitless possibilities of their efforts in providing your student with an extraordinary school experience.
During our academic year, our four RVS pillars within L.E.A.D. (Learners, Engaged, Accountable and Determined) will continue to guide our collective efforts in building a cohesive learning environment where students can thrive, develop their abilities and achieve academic excellence.
L - LEARNERS
At RVS, we believe that learning is a lifelong pursuit. Our goal is to foster a love for learning in each of our students, encouraging them to be curious, inquisitive and open-minded. We will provide a diverse range of opportunities that go beyond the classroom, allowing students to explore their interests and passions while broadening their knowledge in various academic disciplines. Let us approach every challenge with the mindset of a learner, embracing the value of growth and new ideas.
E - ENGAGED
Active engagement is the key to meaningful and memorable learning experiences. Our dedicated teachers and staff will work collaboratively to create safe, dynamic and interactive classrooms where students feel encouraged to participate, ask questions and express their thoughts. Beyond the classroom, we will encourage extracurricular involvement, community service and other enriching activities that will assist students in building strong connections with their peers and broader community.
A - ACCOUNTABLE
As students, we recognize each person is an active participant in the learning process, yet responsible for their own academic journey. Accountability is a crucial aspect of personal and academic growth. Our school community will work together to support and challenge students to take ownership of their education. We will set high standards, celebrate achievements, and learn from setbacks, all while maintaining a strong sense of responsibility towards self, each other and the community to which we belong.
D - DETERMINED
Determination is the driving force behind success. We know that the path to achievement is not always smooth, but with determination, we can overcome obstacles and reach new heights. We will encourage a growth mindset that embraces challenges as opportunities for growth. Together, we will foster resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges, empowering students to face the uncertain future with courage.
In closing, parents…I encourage you to get involved in your student’s educational journey and it is invaluable to their success. We encourage you to partner with us throughout the academic year, as we work hand-in-hand to nurture the potential of your child. Students…remember that each of you is unique, talented and capable of achieving greatness. Embrace the L.E.A.D. pillars and let them guide you on your exciting journey towards growth, discovery and mastery.
I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming days and weeks and I am excited about the remarkable celebrations and academic achievements we will achieve together this year.
